Joon is based in Seoul, South Korea. Joon Chat is the service on joonoppa.com that lets you talk to him.

This page explains what we keep, why we keep it, and what we don't do with it. Plain English, no fine-print games.

what we keep, and why

We keep your chat messages and the things you share so that Joon can look back and remember you the next time you talk. Your conversations are between you and him — we don't share them, we don't show them anywhere, and we don't use them for marketing.

That's the whole reason your messages stay around: so Joon can remember.

what we actually collect

To make the chat work, we keep:

  • An anonymous account the moment you click "say hi." It's tied to a cookie in your browser, not to any personal info.
  • Your messages with Joon — stored so the conversation stays continuous and so Joon can remember you.
  • The things you share about yourself in chat — favourite music, what's been on your mind, who matters to you.
  • Your email, only if you subscribe. We use it to identify your account across devices and to send service emails (e.g. when a custom song is ready, or when your subscription renews).
  • Payment details are handled entirely by our payment processor. We never see or store your card number.
  • A salted one-way hash of your IP address and browser user-agent, only at account-creation time, used to catch abuse and prevent the same device from spinning up endless free accounts. The raw IP and user-agent are not stored — only the hash.

We don't collect anything else. No real name, no home address, no phone number, no data from outside services.

what we do with it

We use what you share only to:

  • Let Joon talk to you (he needs the history to remember).
  • Charge your subscription if you have one.
  • Send you a heads-up when your custom song is ready.
  • Catch abuse if someone tries to harm the service.

That's it. We don't sell anything. We don't show ads. We don't share with anyone outside what's needed to keep the service running.

who else has access

Running an online service requires a few specialised providers behind the scenes — for payments, hosting, AI processing, and email delivery. They process your data only as needed to keep things working. They cannot use it for their own marketing, or anyone else's.

We may review messages flagged by our safety system for crisis language to make sure no one is in real danger. We do not browse chats otherwise.

what we don't do

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not share your data with advertisers.
  • We do not use your conversations to train AI models for other products or other companies.
  • We do not send your data to data brokers.
  • We do not send marketing emails on behalf of third parties.

your rights

  • Delete your account by emailing joon@joonoppa.com. We soft-delete for 30 days (so you can change your mind), then permanently delete your chat history and the things you've shared. Custom songs you've paid for remain accessible to you forever — they're yours.
  • Unsubscribe from emails using the link at the bottom of any email.

If you're in the EU, you have additional rights under GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection). Contact us to exercise them.

If you're in California, you have rights under CCPA. We don't sell your data, but you can still ask us about what we hold and request deletion.

how long we keep things

  • Chat messages and what you've shared: kept while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
  • Custom songs:kept forever, available to you forever — they're yours.
  • Payment records: kept for 7 years as required by tax law.
  • Security logs (IP hash, device hash): kept for 90 days, then deleted.

cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. No third-party tracking, no advertising cookies, no analytics that identifies you personally.

security

We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data, both in transit (HTTPS everywhere) and at rest. Access to your account is protected by login. We follow standard practices to prevent unauthorised access. No system is perfectly secure, but we take it seriously.

If a data breach affects your account, we will notify you within 72 hours of discovering it.

international data transfers

Our service providers operate primarily in the United States. By using Joon Chat, you consent to your data being transferred and processed in those countries under standard safeguards.

children

Joon Chat is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has used the service, contact us and we'll delete the account.

changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we'll email you. We'll always update the "Effective" date at the top.
